Dr. John Paul SanGiovanni

Dr. John Paul SanGiovanni directs the Center for the Study of Nutrient-Responsive
Systems and leads the Food and Nutrition Branch of the NSF IUCRC Center for Streaming
Healthcare in Place. He earned his doctorate and master degrees at Harvard University,
after which he acted for 20 years as the chief scientist on multi-disciplinary food and
nutrition-based studies within the NIH Intramural Research Program; these projects were
funded at funded at > $50M. Dr. SanGiovanni applies a convergence science approach
within the One Health paradigm to develop effective sensing, signaling and decision-
support systems to solve complex challenges underlying food security with the objective
of optimizing global nutrition and planetary health.
